Know someone on NDIS that may benefit from our Services?

How can our mobile speech pathologists assist you?

Speech pathology, also known as speech therapy, helps children and adults develop communication skills and assists with swallowing difficulties. Speech therapy may help when people have difficulties with speaking, understanding language, talking with others, reading, spelling, listening, using their voice and interacting with people. The aim of speech therapy is to help support individual goals so someone can participate in their life, relationships and community in the way they want to.

Speech

Our speech pathologists provide therapy to improve articulation and pronunciation! We help when there is a difficulty producing a sound or one sound is being swapped for another. We work on the clarity of speech sounds to ensure the participant can be easily understood and address issues with pitch, volume, and quality of voice.

Language

Speech pathology works on: Expressive language: Improving the ability to express thoughts, ideas, and emotions through spoken and written language. Receptive language: Enhancing the ability to understand spoken and written language, including following instructions and processing information.

Social Communications & Interactions

Our speech pathologists specialise in helping participants learn how to initiate and maintain conversations, take turns, understand social cues and understand social norms so they can participate in activities that are meaningful to them. We love to practice these skills in places and with people who are important to them!

Non-Verbal Communication

By focusing on the use of facial expressions, physical gestures and body movements, our speech pathologists work to improve communication. This also includes the use of communication devices or systems (also called augmentative and alternative communication) with a range of options such as picture boards, communication books or speech-generating devices.

Swallowing

Dysphagia is the term that is used when someone is having difficulty with swallowing. Dysphagia can lead to coughing, choking or food and fluid going down the wrong way. Our speech pathologists use swallowing assessments to evaluate a participant’s swallowing function and identify difficulties. They then provide tailored strategies and support that might include rehabilitation exercises, food and fluid modification and a mealtime management plan.

Fluency

Using techniques to manage and reduce stuttering and promoting smoother speech, our clinicians work to improve participants overall quality of life through strategies to develop a more fluent speech pattern. Addressing the psychological aspects of fluency disorders to reduce anxiety helps to improve communication confidence.

Literacy

Our clinicians specialise in helping participants with the organisation of thoughts and ideas in reading, writing and spelling. By supporting decoding skills, word recognition, and understanding of text, our speech pathologists enhance a participant’s ability to recognise and manipulate sounds in words, a crucial skill for reading.

Yes, we see the value in completing sessions at school and will do this when we can! However, each school has their own policies on therapy sessions held at school, which we adhere to. If you would be interested in school sessions, please confirm with your child’s school first.

We understand the importance of having a clinic space and are planning on opening a therapy clinic in the future! However, we do not have a clinic available as of now and are focusing on providing therapy in a naturalistic setting. In the meantime, we may be able to host an initial meeting in our office building, in Eight Mile Plains. Please contact us if you would like to discuss further.

If you or your child are experiencing difficulties with speaking clearly, understanding or using language, social interactions, or swallowing, it may be helpful to seek an evaluation from a speech pathologist.

Challenges Without In-Home or
Mobile Speech Therapy

At Amend Rehab, we understand that accessing speech therapy should not add to the challenges faced by individuals with communication difficulties. Without mobile speech therapy services like ours, participants may encounter significant hurdles that can impede their progress and well-being.

  • Limited Access to Care: Many individuals requiring speech therapy may not live within convenient reach of traditional clinic-based services. This limitation can be due to living in rural or underserved areas, or simply due to the scarcity of available specialists. Without mobile therapy, these participants face restricted access to the essential care they need, which can delay diagnosis, intervention, and ongoing treatment.

  • Transportation Stress: For many of our participants and their families, transportation to and from appointments can be a major source of stress. This includes the logistical challenges of arranging transport, the physical and mental toll of traveling, and the financial cost associated with it. Mobile speech therapy eliminates these barriers by providing care directly at the participant’s home, making it a convenient and stress-free treatment.
  • Breaks or discontinuity in Continuity of Care: Consistency is key in any therapeutic intervention, especially in speech therapy, where progress builds over time through regular practice and reinforcement. Fixed-location services can sometimes lead to missed sessions due to unforeseen circumstances like transport issues or personal emergencies. In-home mobile therapy ensures a higher degree of continuity, allowing therapists to deliver consistent, uninterrupted care, even in the face of challenges that would otherwise lead to cancellations
  • Risk of Social Isolation: The difficulty of leaving home for therapy can isolate individuals with disabilities, depriving them of valuable social interactions often found in clinical settings.
  • Social Isolation: Participants with communication challenges often experience social isolation. By bringing therapy to their home environment, mobile services not only reduce the feeling of isolation but also allow therapists to work within the participant’s social context, enhancing the therapy’s relevance and application in daily interactions.
  • Customised Care:

Our mobile speech therapists are committed to delivering personalised care tailored to each participant’s unique needs. This one-on-one approach not only fosters a stronger therapeutic relationship but also allows therapists to fully engage with the specific conditions and nuances of each participant’s environment and daily life. This leads to more targeted and effective therapy sessions, crafted to maximize outcomes and participant satisfaction.

Mobile speech therapy addresses these critical challenges by making specialised care accessible, consistent, and perfectly adapted to each individual’s circumstances. We are dedicated to ensuring that no one is left without the support they need to communicate effectively and confidently in their own homes and communities!
